Summer arrives tonight, but before we let it go, let’s look back on events in our community now that the weather is fine. In recent memory, there hasn’t been a Spring as positive, busy and colourful in our little town. And the excitement! From Horse Pulls to School Awards to Prom Pics and the Painted Skatepark, here’s what’s been happening recently:

Oxford Firefighters’ Association Horse Pulls

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Oxford Firefighters’ Association held their third annual Horse Pulls competition, on the back field of the Oxford ballfield on Water St. Weigh-in began at 9:30am, with the competition kicking off at noon. An on-site canteen kept the crowd refreshed while a 50/50 draw and $5 entrance fee helped raise money for the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department (OVFD).

OREC Prom 2025

That annual event, so anticipated and dreaded at the same time by teens on the cusp of a life-changing graduation, brought out the suits and gowns for wonderful photos with proud parents and friends, before a night of dancing and good times.

Colourizing the Oxford Skate Park

This was an unexpected —and welcome— development at Black River Park. The Oxford Skate Park has been painted! Following an incident of vandalism last month, the Town of Oxford – Recreation Commission hired graffiti artist Tyler Leblanc of the Mitote Art Gallery to freshen up the space, and it’s eye-popping!

OREC Awards Night

Athletic and Scholarly awards were handed out at the Oxford Regional Education Centre on Wednesday, June 17th, 2025. More awards are coming for Grade 12 students, to be presented during the graduation ceremonies.

Due to OREC’s privacy policies, we are unable to publish the list of students who were awarded for academic and athletic achievements. Hello Oxford congratulates all students for their successes this year, and thanks the teachers, coaches, and volunteers who helped our youth excel!
