Well… not my duckie. Mine didn’t win squat. But with the not-quite-nail-biting excitement of the 2025 Duck Race on the River Philip having come to a close, the winner is most certainly the Oxford and Area Community Centre.

Three ducks crossed the line ahead of 1328 others: First place was Duck #244, a $2500 prize that went to Glenn Pettigrew. In Second place was Duck #1050, a $1000 price to Ken Brownell; and in Third place, Duck #277, a $500 prize to Doug Bragg Enterprises.

All of the winners graciously donated their winnings back to the OCC fundraising event: $4000 in prize money!

Added to the duck ticket sales, that means the watery fowl fundraiser brought in over $13,310 for our new Community Centre on Lower Main St.

The event also featured a number of vendors selling crafts, sweets and Scott’s Independent was on hand with their barbeque. Scott and Michelle earned $214 profit from the BBQ sales, matching the funds with a donation of their own: $428 more for the OCC!

At the ticket table, donations were also given, to the tune of a further $316.60.

But that’s not all!

Before the ducks met their watery fate, Chris Greer (President of the Church Mouse Players) arrived at the river side to present a cheque for $1100! The CMP has donated over $65,000 in money to community projects in its lifetime.

The final-ultimate-complete total of funds raised for the day, then, comes to: $15,154.60.

The OCC is on a roll… last month, the National Bank of Canada was on hand to present a cheque for $25,000, which came on the heels of $350,000 from Cumberland County. And coming up on Monday the 15th, Hello Oxford will be present for another big announcement as the fundraising thermometer moves up yet again! Stay tuned!
