We’ve entered into one of my favourite seasons in Nova Scotia: the sap is running, the maple syrup is boiling, and community halls all across Cumberland County are serving up pancake breakfasts and suppers. If we’re lucky to have a sunny day, it’s a pleasant drive through our area’s back roads to rural community halls and fire halls. You will certainly find friendly faces, perhaps people you haven’t seen since last year’s maple season. The plates are always brimming, with pancakes, baked beans, sausages or bacon… and such wonderful company!
On Tuesday, Oxford’s Trinity United Church held a Shrove pancake supper, seeing more than one-hundred folks show up. The Port Elgin United Church also held their supper that day.
