Kyle Carpenter tells jokes for a living. So do Ian Black and Catherine Fleming, and together this trio will be on-stage at the Oxford Capitol Theatre hoping to make you laugh. It’s a fundraising event for the Oxford & Area Community Centre, organized by the NS Walks Oxford Group. Carpenter and friends are all working comics, with over a decade of mirth-making each. These comics have been featured on The Halifax Comedy Festival and Just For Laughs Originals on tour from Halifax
Susan Rector is Kyle’s mother-in-law, hence the connection to Oxford. He previously agreed to do a fundraising show for the Amherst Curling Club, and “she liked the show well enough that she asked me back.”
“Comedy is one of those things where we’re all used to playing small, shabby rooms… you can’t play to yourself, you have to play to an audience.” “Anytime we can get into an historic theatre, it’s really exciting, and usually makes for a wonderful show.”
Proceeds from the April 26th event go to the Oxford & Area Community Centre, as the organizing committee works to raise the final $2-million(ish) needed to open its doors in Spring 2026.

Known for his warmth, wit, and hilariously self-deprecating humour, Kyle Carpenter is a bearhug of a comic who has opened on tour with Canadian legends like Gerry Dee, Ron Josol, Cathy Jones and Nikki Payne.
The Halifax Comedy Festival and opening for International headliners like Bob Saget, Ian Black is the soul of rock and roll in the body of an old-timey prospector. His hysterical observations about life, fatherhood, and the silly stupidity that surrounds us will leave you howling!
As seen on CBC as part of the Halifax Comedy Festival and heard on Sirius XM as part of JFL Originals, Catherine Robertson is the kind of no-nonsense mama bear that everybody needs in their life. She’s also absolutely hilarious, helping audiences across the maritimes laugh at everyday irritations with her devastatingly wry comedy.
