The Oxford & Area Community Centre’s construction is coming along nicely, and even with just the metal superstructure, it’s already an impressive building when seen from Lower Main or Little River Road.
With a couple of million dollars left to fundraise, the Oxford Community Centre Committee (OCC) is seeing donations come in from community groups who are all doing their own thing to realize this project.
The NS Walks — Oxford group arranged a comedy night fundraiser at the Capitol Theatre a couple of weeks ago. That group presented a cheque to the OCC for $2,200.
A group of students at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) recently held a fundraising raffle, also bringing in approximately $2,200.
Working on community awareness for the new recreation centre are students at OREC, who added painted handprints on boards that will be hung in the new building once construction is complete. The project completed in April involved OREC students Haley Jacklin, Kaylee Bird, Sydney Blanch, Carley Oickle, and Heather MacDonald, with teacher Angela MacDonald overseeing the effort.

The Oxford & Area Community Centre — whose official name will go to whomever buys naming rights to the building — is planned to open its doors in the Spring of 2026. With funds and in-kind donations from the Town, Provincial and Federal governments with about a third coming from private donors — principally, The River Philip Foundation — the $24.5-million building is expected to have a significant impact on the recreational and social activities in Oxford.
As a registered charity, donations to the Oxford & Area Community Centre project are eligible for tax receipts.
