The Cobequid Fun-Tones singing group, celebrating its 40th year of harmony, continues to give back to the Oxford community.
Their Christmas party in full swing, Helen Reade welcomed Oxford & Area Community Centre Committee board member Jordan Burkhardt into the vestry at the Oxford Baptist Church on a chilly Tuesday evening, with the warmest of intentions: providing a $500 contribution to the under-construction centre’s fundraising effort.
The Fun-Tones have a long history of fundraising to support their group’s travel to singing competitions, purchase costumes and equipment for their shows, but they have always been committed to providing support for their community too.

The Oxford & Area Community Centre is on track for a Spring 2026 opening. The community is encouraged to donate to the fundraising effort, and as a charitable organization, the OCC will issue tax receipts. This year the OCC has seen charitable contributions from banks, individuals, and community groups like the Fun-Tones, as well as the Oxford Firefighters Association, which a few weeks ago provided $5000 from their fundraising efforts. Every little bit helps, as the the effort to meet the $24.5-million project funding goal continues.
