Patrons of the Oxford branch of Canada Post were surprised to find new post boxes installed along the walkway. With the growth in the town’s population you might guess that these are intended for our new residents, but that’s not the reason.
Sources at CP say it’s a matter of liability — these boxes replace those formerly located at the Lower Main Market and at Buck’s Automotive. Should a customer slip and fall while collecting mail at either of those locations, it could pose a liability risk for the local business owners. With the consolidation of the boxes at the Oxford branch, Canada Post is solely responsible for client safety.
